Rose & Crown

Contemporary pub in the heart of Lewes. The place is lively and energetic with an active bar scene featuring multiple big screen TVs. The food is very gòod, but the service is inconsistent. We waited several minutes for the hostess to acknowledge us and once we were seated, it took forever for our drinks to arrive. That said, our server was very nice, hard working and apologetic. Our other courses arrived in a reasonable period of time. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops. The scallops were tender and tasty and blended well with the crispy, salty bacon. My wife had the burger which was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the chicken picatta which also was tender, tasty and was an appropriately sized portion including 2 sides of rice and mixed vegetables. We shared the key lime pie for dessert. It was sweet, creamy and mouth watering and had a wonderful crunchy crust. Overall, a pretty good dining experience, but could be better with a little faster, consistent service.

We ate on a Wednesday evening and had a wonderful server named John. We had a couple of mixed drinks that arrived promptly and ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The fried green tomatoes were fantastic. Actually, they were the best I’ve ever had.They were large, properly coated and the accompanying sauce, greens, cheese and corn were good enough to eat on their own. We had crab cakes which were 100% crab baked perfectly and the chicken piccata, both of which were amazing and I highly recommend. Finished the meal with the coconut cake which was huge, moist and delicious. Double thumbs up to this quaint, relaxing pub style restaurant. Prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity received. Located in the Rodney Hotel in downtown Lewes.

Rose and Crown

After riding all day in the rain, we arrived at our hotel tired and hungry, only to discover the Rose & Crown connected to the property. What a fantastic surprise!

All four of us had outstanding meals. The seafood chowder was absolutely delicious, rich, and full of flavor. I ordered the crab cakes, and they were simply unbelievable—easily among the best I’ve ever had. Two members of our group had the halibut and both agreed it was the best halibut they’ve ever eaten.

What made the evening even better was our server, Ashley. She was spectacular—friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. After a long day on the road, her exceptional service made us feel right at home.

From the food to the service, everything exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend the Rose & Crown and will definitely return the next time we’re in the area.
