Big Oyster Brewery

A friend of mine always told me that if a brewery has "brewpup" in the name, the beer is mediocre—and Big Oyster Brewery unfortunately lived up to that sentiment. The experience got off to a rocky start before we even sat down. After parking in the rear and noticing a half-empty room inside, we walked to the front host stand only to be told there was a 5 to 10-minute wait, which quickly ballooned into a line out the door. Once we were finally seated outside, we couldn't help but notice plenty of open tables and staff members just standing around chit-chatting.
The main bright spot of the visit was our waitress, who was awesome, friendly, polite, bubbly, and full of great suggestions. Sadly, the rest of the visit was strike two and three. The oysters were the leanest and skinniest I’ve ever seen, while the fish and chips were plain, featuring totally greasy unseasoned fish and soggy fries.
To top it off, the beer was served “warmish”They do offer flights—which is great in theory—but unfortunately, most of what we tried was pretty bad. The only decent brew of the lineup was "Whale Song," which was a pleasant surprise considering I usually hate sours. Great service aside, between the host stand disorganization, warm beer, and disappointing food, this one just didn't live up to expectations.

We came here for happy hour and had a great experience. Plenty of wine and beer options. The comfort food options were fresh and delicious. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly and the oysters were outstanding. We also ordered buffalo wings which were among the best in the area. Other options such as the pulled pork and fried calamari paired nicely with our drinks. The service was friendly and attentive. The place is enormous with plenty of comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. There was also a guitar player which added to the relaxing atmosphere. Parking was limited during peak times. For delicious comfort food and reasonably priced drinks, you can't go wrong here.
