Agave Mexican Restaurant

And I quote from their website, "We serve the best authentic Mexican food in Rehoboth Beach." This is not true.
The atmosphere is amazing and our waiter was great.
Unfortunately that us where it ends.
We started with guacamole and requested traditional as I never heard of goat cheese and pine nuts in your guacamole. Who does that? We asked for jalapeños to be added and they came in a side dish. The guacamole was okay, could have used some salt. The chips were very good though as they held up well dipping into the guacamole.
We also got the mango margarita and a virgin Pina Colada. Not bad for a Mexican restaurant as they have a full bar.
For entrées, we got a non-sizzling fajita that came on a ceramic plate and not in a cast iron skillet. It wasn't smoking and you couldn't smell it. The vegetables were mushy and neither the veggies nor chicken had any char. Definitely not authentic. Also got a traditional burrito in a bowl. The chicken was tough and the Spanish rice had no flavor. The black beans were good though. The other item was a Cali burrito. It was okay.
The food is sub par and overpriced. We will not be back and cannot recommend this restaurant if you want Mexican, authentic or modern.

Agave has a solid, well-rounded menu and the space has potential — the plants inside are a nice touch and the music is on point. Unfortunately, the service and execution were really disappointing.

The bar experience was especially poor. It felt disorganized, and it took far too long just to place an order. We moved to a table, where service improved slightly, but it was still slow.

The nachos were the biggest miss. We added steak, but the dish was drowned in liquid, turning everything into a soggy mess instead of something crisp and layered.

The coffee was good, and the Mexican chocolate cake was enjoyable, but overall, there was very little attention to detail. Nice atmosphere, but the service and food execution need work.

Made reservations at 8:15 on a Thursday night. On arrival was sat in a dark room with a bunch of skulls and asked to me moved. We were moved into the main area which is a much better atmosphere than the dark room but the tables are too small. My steak came out with uncooked fries and the avocado creme sauce was oily and separated. No refills. I complained and they just gave me the check. For a sub 40 dollar meal I've been served more appetizing steak dinners at Hoss's Steak and Sea House for 10 bucks. Not worth it at all.
