“Let the Sun Shine In”
In the words of the immortal Beatles, “Little darling,
It’s been a long, cold, lonely winter. Little darling, it
feels like years since it’s been here. Here comes the
sun. Here comes the sun. And I say, “It’s alright.” This
month the artists of Gallery One are, “Letting the Sun
Shine In,” and we are saying, “It’s alright!” As artist
Laura Hickman describes in her pastel, “Breaking
Light,” “Cloudy, dreary days are never appreciated by
me when on my travels, but when the sun breaks
through and begins shining brightly, all is good!! True
indeed! “Walking down a sandy path and seeing the sun
about to set over the water is always a visual delight,”
says artist Dale Sheldon of her inspiration for, “Early
Evening Sunset,” in acrylic, and artist Marybeth
Patterson, always experiences a thrill when, after a day
of painting, she gets to see a beautiful sailboat catching
the last sunlight of the day, she has illustrated this
moment in her peaceful oil painting, “Afternoon at
Pilotown Marina.”
When we think of Spring, and the magic that the sun
creates, one can’t help but experience the joy of the first
blooms of the season peeking through the barren
ground or even (this year) the snow. Those blossoms
are both a visual joy, and an emotional lift. For artists
Lesley McCaskill in her acrylic painting, “Awe
Spring,” and Cindy Beyer, in her pastel, "Iridescence,"
spring beautifully changes the landscape with the
colorful spring flowers and warmth of the weather.
